Transition to Senior

We believe a happy, positive start to the year helps students to focus on their work and take advantage of the many opportunities that are offered at Lewes Old Grammar School. Yet we understand that the move into Year 7 can be an anxious time for both students and parents

We try to alleviate as many worries by holding an information evening for parents and a fun-filled Welcome Day for students, both in July.  These provide everyone with the opportunity to start to get to know one another and to ask questions.

In September, Year 7 students come to school for a morning, before the rest of the school returns, to spend time with their new tutor group and form tutor.  This gives students the chance to start to make friends, to find their way around the school, and to understand the routines before term begins.

During the first few weeks of term, the Year 7 Form Tutors and Head of Year spend time with students, both in groups and one to one, to ensure that everyone settles in and that any problems are resolved.  Sixth form students, who act as peer mentors, also visit the form rooms regularly to offer help and support.

In October, parents are invited to meet their child’s Form Tutor and discuss how their child is settling in. Parents are encouraged to contact the Year 7 Pastoral Team at any time if they have any concerns.
